PhD Scandinavian Studies/Translation Studies
University of Edinburgh
2020-2023
I am currently undertaking an interdisciplinary, practice-based PhD that spans the subject areas of Scandinavian Studies and Translation Studies. My research seeks to creative illustrate the hermeneutic/instrumentalist debate within poetry translation scholarship, which can otherwise be described as the debate surrounding poetic (un)translatability. I am exploring a range of approaches as applied to the rhyming metrical poetry of Halldis Moren Vesaas (1907-1995) and the hybrid, genre-bending poetry of Cecilie Løveid (1951-) and aim to both creatively illustate this scholarly debate and explore the feasiblilty of these approaches on two very different styles of poetry.

This PhD is being completed with support from a Northern Scholars PhD Scholarship and from a mobility grant from Direktoratet for internasjonalisering og kvalitetsutvikling i høyere utdanning [the Norwegian Agency for International Cooperation and Quality Enhancement in Higher Education].
